Charlotte's Accident

Last night at gymnastics, Charlotte did a front tuck and over-rotated and fell forward on her left arm. I happened to have just walked in and saw it happen and when she didn't get up right away, I knew something was wrong. I ran out to her as she stood up and told Coach Fox, "I think I did something bad to my arm..." then she dropped. She dislocated her elbow, so we took a trip to the emergency room. Coach Fox helped get her in the car and came to the hospital with us. Jonathan had called and let the ER know we were coming, so they got her right in, got an IV in her with morphine and got her pain under control. After x-rays, it was determined that there was no break, so the doctors (along with a number of specialists monitoring her vitals--scary for us) put her to sleep for about 10 minutes and got it back into place. The medicine that was used caused her to forget everything, so even today, she has no real recollection of what happened. All she remembers was Coach Fox hugging her and watching movies with her. She had to have more x-rays and the ER doc thought he might have seen a small chip, but an ortho looked at it and doesn't think so. They did put her in a half-cast, splint kind of a thing that we can't take off until we go in to the orthopedic doctor on Monday, but she says it feels great today. We gave her a vicodin last night to help her sleep and I slept with her (actually watched her all night to make sure she was breathing). She thought she was up to going to Nicholas' swim meet today, so we tried it, but she was falling asleep. I brought her home and she fell asleep right away. She's resting comfortably and other than that, I can't tell much more. She's very disappointed that she can't compete tomorrow, but what she doesn't know yet is that she may be out for the rest of the season. The good news is, because she doesn't remember anything, she's not scared to get right back out there. Thanks to everyone for all the love and prayers. She'll get through this just fine.

OH, this brings tears to my eyes. I'm so sorry for you guys, and for the mom fear that you had to go through worrying about your baby. Coach Fox is amazing, and we're so thankful that he's Emma's coach, too. Good luck.
